Celebrity Chef and culinary genius Farrokh Khambata opened up the doors of JAAN to elite diners of Dubai 14th of October 2016. JAAN is a Progressive Indian restaurant. Keeping the Indian favours intact with a modern twist. The food is inspired by Japanese cuisine, Spanish tapas and other international gastronomy.
Farrokh Khambata’s popular high end catering company has taken him far and wide across India, Europe and Asia. He has catered to well known celebrities like Enrique Iglesias, Hrithik Roshan, Sir Richard Branson and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi too.
Mr. Khambata is not only known for his food but he has twist of architecture within him. The interiors of the restaurant conceptualised by him. The interiors are contemporary, modern, chic and trendy. It is located on the 31st floor of Sofitel Downtown, with a spectacular view of iconic Burj Khalifa. The bar, lighting and the ambiance makes it a perfect lounge. One of the wall is artistic, creating a sense of fusion in the interiors as is the food. A true progressive Indian restaurant with international interiors and feel.
For starters we had;
Salmon Kejriwal – Nothing to do with Delhi’s chief minister 😉 This is an Indianised Sushi, rolled up with salmon fish and egg cooked at 75 degrees. It is spiced with a mild flavoured smoked jwala chilli mayo. Served with the visual effects of dry ice.
Turkey Bacon Wrapped Prawns – Grilled Prawns In Narangi Sriracha Spiced Orange Reduction wrapped in Turkey Bacon. Never had this combo before. The taste is superb.
Smoke smoke baby – Cherry wood smoked infused chicken is a tender chicken is spiced with button peppers and Indian boriya mirch chillies. Topped with crunchy cashew nuts.
Life of a Nemo – Inspired by the movie ‘Nemo’. Raw Salmon (Japanese sashimi) was presented in a fish bowl with a fish actually swimming in the bowl.
Hunter’s Poussin – Clay oven cooked young chicken supremes with basil and cumin. I like the presentation with a bow and the chicken on the arrow. It was served with a delectable Beetroot Chutney served in a Duck leg shaped mini bowl.
Bhutjholakia Style Silken Tofu – A Veg starter dish. Made with crispy Tofu with a variety of North-eastern pepper. Presented on glass cutlery above a burning flame.
For Mains we had;
Lamb Rogan Josh – Well marinated, soft and tender mutton. Made with Indian spices and cooked in the Kashmiri style. We had it with Indian breads “Rotis and Naans”
Dhabha highway restaurant butter chicken – Inspired by the north Indian Dhaba’s on highways famous for their butter chicken. Well marinated tender chicken cubes cooked in tomato gravy and butter. Presented in a tiffin box creating a sense of nostalgia.
Sizzling Chole hummus with Amritsar kulcha – A popular Punjabi dish. Made with spicy all around you with spicy chickpea curry accompanied by potato stuffed kulchas. The chole was served sizzling on a hot iron pan.
Arabic Malai Reshmi Murgh Briyani – Made with aromatic basmati rice biryani in mild spices, with tender chicken reshmi kebabs styled chicken cube in it. Made in Dum style in a pot covered with wheat dough to preserve its flavour.
For drinks we had;
Picasso – Mocktail made with fresh oranges.
Swadeshi – Mocktail made with sweetness from berries and tart flavour from passion fruit was a stimulating drink.
Last but not the least, the deserts;
French toast Shahi tukra – Soft of French toast shahi tukra with maple syrup. Served along with Badam Kulfi on a stick.
Saffron Panacotta – Well constructed dessert with sweet tangy notes from the raspberry coulis and chocolate covered gold leaf.
My wife and me enjoyed the romantic dinner at JAAN. It is a perfect place to go out on a romantic dinner with a loved one.
